String lights require structure or attachment points to string from and to.  The bigger the space the bigger the design challenge for stringing lights.  Here are some examples of very large outdoor spaces covered by string lights.  In each example designers used every thing from the house, to trees shrubbery and support posts to string from and to.

The covered terrace, in my mind, is yet another distinction in outdoor spaces.  Elevated but not a balcony as it does not project from the wall of the house or building.  Open on more sides than a loggia but not a porch as they have no outside access.  A terrace is a platform extending from the floor of a house or building and it is often not covered but this week I sought out the comfort of covered terraces.

We've spent an entire week on porches before as they are such a special space.  Enclose a porch and it becomes even more magical in my opinion.  I'm not sure I can put my finger on why that is but whatever it may be they would be a lovely and comfortable place to watch fall unfold.
