Design 101 - Vacation Blues - Kate Smith on Pool Colors

As if a million stars floated down, sparkling sunlight dances across crystal clear blue water.  The sunlight mesmerizes. The blue waters beckon and invite you to step in.  Ahh, the pleasure of a seaside getaway in any one of the sought after destinations around the world.

Is it any wonder that so many people choose to spend their vacation by the sea?  Or that luxury swimming pool designers work with the eye of an artist to recreate the warm and inviting colors of the waters from the most gorgeous destinations so that you can bring the experience home?

Caribbean Blue, Mediterranean Blue, Sea, and Azure are just a few of the blues that evoke a sense of the waters of exquisite destinations.  These are also the hues used in swimming pools to give the water the magical blue color that instantly whisks you back to another place and time when you were by the sea.

Just don’t stop there; bring watery blues into your decor to give a getaway feeling to any space.  In the loggia sea blue is refreshing when combined with the colors of sand and surf.

Deep blue accented with the vibrant orange and yellow of the sunset is an adventurous combination that stands out against lush green.

A little blue can go a long way.  Deep Caribbean blue pops as accent color against sun bleached blue, white washed wood and rattan.

Not all of the colors of the sea are true blue.  In some parts of the world the water is almost turquoise.  A relaxing blue-green might be just the “blue” for you.

Sometimes it is more than just blue that inspires you.  Combination of colors, textures and repetitive shapes can all travel back from an exotic destination and into your home.
