Pillows are a multi-functional accessory.  They are a great vehicle for adding color and graphic interest to a design.  In addition, they do more "heavy lifting" than most accessories.  They add softness and support for backs, heads and arms.  We often see throw pillows take on the role of furniture back cushions.

Armchair Traveler - Luxury Hotel Chaise Lounges

I think the chaise lounge is the quintessential outdoor furnishing.  The chaise shape is instantly recognizable and the purpose unmistakeable - relaxation.  Over the years the chaise lounge has come in many styles and today's furniture designers continue to evolve the chaise style.  Designers have gone as far as to strip the chaise down to its curvy shape alone - no structure just a molded shape.  Luxury hotels have always embraced the chaise lounge and they have whole heartedly accepted the new forward thinking designs of the chaise lounge.  Travel with me to distant lands for inspiration for this weeks' posts on the chaise lounge.

The Olympic Third Rock by Rick Wittrig

Rick Wittrig's talent has taken him on quite a journey. Known for his innovative fire pit designs, the artist was raised in a small Mennonite farming community in central Illinois and has now become a well known artisan creating distinctive centerpieces for outdoor sapces. One of his latest creations was a commission by the Vancouver Olympic Committee to design a fire pit for the 2010 Olympics.
