Top Topic - Pool Queen

I have a hard time not thinking of Esther Williams when I think of pools. In her career Esther swam in some amazing studio pools designed to showcase her amazing water talents. For Thursday, a little fun with swimming pools - some Esther William video highlights.
Top Topic - The Artists' Version of Ceramic Furniture

Ane Davidsen Ceramic Sofas at Grimmerhus - Museum of International Ceramic Art - Denmark
It is said that trends get started and disseminated to the masses by a select few individuals who have been coined connectors, mavens and salesman. I view artists and designers as the elusive group at the tippy top of that food chain that give the connectors, mavens and salesman something to talk about. We keep a close eye on what artists and designers are producing because as a general rule their avant-garde version of something will eventually make it into the products market where we can snag it and make it available to you.

Top Topic - The Original Pod

Henrik Thor-Larsen Ovalia Egg Chair
Like so many contemporary furniture designs the pod was inspired by a previous design concept. The modern pod has its roots in the mid-century designs of Henrick Thor-Larsen and Arne Jacobsen. For Today's top topic I went in search of these space-age designs in hopes that I might find them in their 'native' mid-century habitats. To my surprise I didn't find many vintage photos but rather found some great examples of contemporary designs that had incorporated this vintage design. Pods are back! How will you incorporate one into your current outdoor space?

Top Topic - The Daybed

She Moves The Furniture - Photo Post
It almost isn't an exaggeration to say that since the dawn of time daybeds have been a favorite furnishing. The history of daybeds is long and there is no shortage of historic and current examples of the daybed in use. Much like the sectional sofa the appeal of a daybed is its design and function flexibility - which explains its long design history. Flexibility in design for outdoor spaces is key so it's no wonder the daybed concept has taken off in outdoor decor. From ostentatious to crude there are so many interior examples to fuel your imagination.
Top Topic - Vintage and Retro Sectional Sofas

When I think of sectional sofas I am immediately transported back in time. I thought it would be fun to find some ads that introduced the homeowner to the concept of sectionals seating and that led me to today's Top Topic: Vintage and Retro Sectional Sofas. Although the styles have changed over time the concept is still the same and I think this Kroehler Furniture ad says it best - "Arrange and Re-Arrange". Flexibility was the appeal when sectional sofas were first introduced in the mid-century and this concept is still going strong as sectional sofas are reintroduced to homeowners for their outdoor spaces.

Top Topic - Big Outdoor Spaces, Luxury Estates on the Market

I am an unabashed Britophile so the English garden and estate is near and dear to my heart. Someday I hope to buy a few acres so I can play out my English estate fantasy and I spend a lot of my time scouring local real estate for the perfect property. This weeks' discussion about big outdoor spaces got me fantasizing about buying an estate outright. That led me to this weeks' Top Topic - Luxury Real Estate.
