Home Infatuation Malibu Beach House

In the summer of 2006 I had the exciting opportunity to work along-side a select group of HomeInfautation.com's vendors to design Home Infatuation's vision of outdoor living at a Malibu Beach House. The space was to be used by a celebrity entertainment company to entertain celebrities all summer long so the space had to seat large groups comfortably for everything from cocktails to sunbathing.  In order to maximize the lounging and seating capacity of the deck I relied heavily on the chaise lounge for optimum seating flexibility.

The DoDaz Chit Chat is reminiscent of the Victorian era chaise lounges and courting benches but with a decidedly modern flair.  Using two of these for the "living room" area of the deck hinted at the look and feel of two sofas but with comfortable seating and lounging available for several guests facing several directions.  In the "sunbathing" area of the deck I used the EMU Luxor Chaise Lounge. The backs on the Luxor lay completely flat for sunbathing but the Luxor also works wonderfully as a bench in this position.  Bench seating can accommodate a lot of guests and in a variety of directions which is perfect for cocktail parties.  Due to the tides the beach furniture had to be easy to move so I went with four light-weight bent wicker chaise lounges that appeared to float over the sand due to the circular legs and arms.

Desiging the outdoor space was fun but near as much fun as setting up the space for three days in late June - talk about corner office!
