Your Outdoor Style - Jason Champion

Jason Champion Temple Outdoor Space at Home Infatuation BlogJasion Champion's Temple on Siesta Key, Florida

Many of you will remember our vendor Jason Champion from Season 4 of HGTV's Design Star.  We sell Jason's line of distinctive contemporary outdoor furniture.  Bold geometric patterns and glossy colors make Jason's furniture works of art and conversation pieces for your outdoor space.  Today Jason has kindly offered to share a glimpse into his own personal design style.  What is a special about this post is that he has offered us photos from his three latest homes so we can see how his design style changes as his venues do.  Plus after our post on Florida Modern and the houses of the Sarasota School of Architecture it is so exciting that Jason's second home was from this School!

Thanks for sharing Your Outdoor Style with us Jason!

Updated on October 22, 2010 by Registered CommenterHome Infatuation

Saxon Henry Four Florida Moderns at Home Infatuation Blog

Design and architecture journalist Saxon Henry has just recently released a book, Four Florida Moderns.  The book concentrates on four current masters of Florida modernism and we will look at them in this post.  In Part 1 of our interview with Saxon she started to talk about Florida Modernism by mentioning one of its greatest moments - the Sarasota School era. Before we give you Part 2 of our interview with Saxon we'd like to take a moment to mention the Sarasota School Era.

Rupp Seibert House at Home Infatuation BlogRupp-Seibert HouseThis post-war and regional style of architecture is associated with Florida's Central West Coast or more specifically Sarasota, Florida hence it's nickname of "Sarasota Modern". This style is still popular and many great examples still exist today. The Sarasota Architectural Foundation's charter is "to promote preservation and awareness of Sarasota's architecture and design, beginning with the Sarasota School of Architecture and beyond."

For more examples of Sarasota Modernism we found this great virtual tour movie at the PupuluxeBooks Blog

Discover - Outdoor Furniture Covers not Created Equal

When shopping for outdoor furniture covers you will notice a vast difference in cost for what seems to be the same type of cover.  I noticed this too when I was selecting a line of outdoor furniture covers for Home Infatuation.  After checking with some experts in the outdoor furniture cover business I discovered that the old adage “you get what you pay for” is just as true with furniture covers as it is with most other products.

Get The Look - The Mid Atlantic Aesthetic

Get the Mid Atlantic Look at Home Infatuation Blog

There is some general disagreement regarding the states that comprise the Mid Atlantic Region.  Generally the region is located between New England and the South and depending on with whom you are speaking the region will include some combination of the following states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Virginia, New York and West Virginia.  In this Get the Look we’ve zeroed in on a vignette from Virginia.

Design 101 - The Midwest's Restrained Exuberance for Outdoor Living

Kansas City Home and Garden 1 at Home Infatuation BlogKansas City Home and Garden

Home Infatuation is a Midwest based business run by a proud family of Illinoisans.  When I suggested that we write a post about the Midwestern design style we didn't think twice, because...we're from the Midwest and we know Midwestern design.  Right?  Wrong!  Once we started pulling resources together for this post we realized how little we knew about our outdoor style.  It was refreshing to see our outdoor selves through fresh eyes.  After much deliberation we settled on the description of restrained exuberance for our Midwestern outdoor design vernacular.

Designer Profile - David Scott

David Scott Hampton Designs at Home Infatuation Blog

The Two Faces of Hamptons Design Through the Eyes of One Designer
There are two very distinctive architectural styles in the Hamptons.  First came the quintessential grey shake shingle siding, rough wood shake roof shingles and pitched roof lines dotted with dormers.  These outdoor spaces are typically furnished with classic teak and wicker furnishings with either neutral color schemes and garden style decor or decidedly nautical color schemes and décor   Then came the new look of the Hamptons – the sleek, flat roof, floor to ceiling window, mostly stark white modern homes.  These outdoor spaces are typically furnished with very contemporary metal or molded plastic furnishing in monochromatic color schemes and minimal to non-existent décor.  The two looks could not be further apart on the design spectrum yet they both epitomize the Hampton look.  We think designer David Scott works beautifully in both design vernaculars.
