Discover - Modern Design Furniture

Cubes - Sunday Collection at Home Infatuation
A fun aspect of this blog is re-discovering our product through the filter of a weekly topic. It was a challenging design exercise to shop HomeInfatuation.com with the modern design concept of volume over mass in mind as the filter for finding furnishings.
To start, I had to find a good definition of volume. I came across an excerpt from the International Style design guide “A First Principle: Architecture as Volume” and this statement resonated with me: Volume is felt as immaterial and weightless, a geometrically bounded space. Once I started to think about a geometrically bounded space, or more simply put looking for shapes, I started to see our furniture in a different light. Suddenly the furniture with cylindrical, cube and rectangular shapes came into full-view. In many cases the seating area appears to be 'carved' out of the shape. The architectural significance of this modern design concept, especially in relation to furniture design, is about experiencing and being within a volume. You are no longer locked into just looking at a cube - you can actually walk right into it. In the case of furniture you can actually crawl right up inside a cube. I had never viewed modern design as being a particularly cozy design style but this realization changed my perspective significantly.
