What comes to my mind first when I think of patio umbrellas is stripes and bright colors. When I came across these pictures of outdoor spaces with black patio umbrellas I realized I had been close-minded. Any other color but black in these elegant spaces would work.

Open air structures are another means to define outdoor rooms in your landscape. Within these structures you may have more than one outdoor room or they can be singular purpose such as outdoor dining rooms. Open air structures can provide shade and privacy and architectural interest to your outdoor space.

I've posted a couple of times about the special nature of porches. One of the reasons I think porches are special places is because that's where you can find the porch swing. Whether swinging on a swing set or gently on a porch swing the act is so soothing it's intoxicating. When I conjure up the image of a porch swing, it's always the classic version. You can never go wrong with a classic.
